I hold a Bachelor of Human Biology, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Auckland and a Master of Health & Medical Law from the University of Melbourne. I qualified as a doctor in 2002. I am a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and have completed specialist training in Forensic Psychiatry.  I work as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and was previously Chair of the RANZCP NZ Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry.  
 
I have prepared medicolegal reports across a variety of areas including fitness to stand trial, the insanity defence and sentencing recommendations for mentally disordered offenders using the Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act 2003 and Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992.  I have also prepared s 88 Sentencing Act 2002 reports for preventive detention & s 107 Sentencing Act 2002 reports for life without parole, Parole Board and Special Patient reports and given oral evidence in family and criminal court hearings.
 
In my clinical work I have lead multidisciplinary forensic teams for the assessment, management and treatment of psychiatric patients, remand and sentenced prisoners and special and general psychiatric patients.  I have assessed and treated people presenting with a mental illness in custody.  I have provided forensic opinions to general mental health services and s 59 Mental Health Act second opinion assessments for psychiatric patients ordered to receive compulsory care and treatment.

Hourly rates have increased from 1 February 2019, rates available on request.
